Dr. Gozia Battles Colon Cancer

We regret to inform our SOGA patients and surrounding communities that Dr. Gozia has been recently diagnosed with colon cancer. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she battles this all too common disease.

In the coming weeks and months we respectively ask our patients to understand the necessary schedule changes required to help us accomodate Dr. Gozia’s treatment and recovery. This will be a difficult time for SOGA both emotionally and operationally, but we are committed to providing the same best-in-class care as Dr. Gozia goes through the recovery process.

Statement From Dr. Gozia

Some of you may have been asked to reschedule your appointments and others may have noticed some of our quivering lips and sad eyes. Almost exactly 5 years after my last bout with cancer it seems like I will have the opportunity to walk that road again. On a routine colonoscopy, which I had put off like many patients, I had a small spot of cancer. I will be in the process of having this evaluated and hopefully treated over the next couple of weeks. We ask your patience, prayers and understanding as we make this journey. I would take this opportunity to remind everyone to get a colonoscopy done, sooner versus later. – Dr. Penny Gozia

  1. Thoughts and prayers are with you, Dr. Gozia! Prayers for your strength and courage, and peace with decisions that you have to make. May you have a quick and complete recovery.

  2. You’re strong and you can beat this Dr. Gozia! If Jackie can do it, SO CAN YOU!!! Praying for you daily, and keeping the faith that God will get you through this.

    Hang tough!

  3. Ladies – Cancer is such a difficult disease to struggle and cope with, however, leaning on God’s word and trusting in your faith is where you know you can always turn. I will keep Dr. Gozia in my prayers and wish her the best of luck. My mother was diagnosed with Colon Cancer 2 years ago (July 4th 2010), which was (at the time) set at a Stage 4. Her cancer spread from her colon to her liver and lungs. She dropped down to 93lbs and was hospitalized for 3 months. I definitely feel your pain and can sympathize with you. Today, only 2 years later, my mom will stand here to tell you that she is currently a healthy 143lbs and feels better than ever! She just saw the doctor last week at the Siteman Cancer Center and was able to ring the bell for no more chemo treatments!!! My heart is heavy for you all. May you keep your heads held high and your smiles plastered!! :)

  4. Thoughts and prayers.

  20. I have include a website that I hope you will visit. There are other options out there besides the traditional methods. I know you are a doctor, but my husband was cured of stage 4 throat cancer using only diet, supplements, and prayer. You are what you eat!!!!! I would love to share with you what we did. My heart goes out to you! What we are doing with chemo and the like doesn’t work. You can rebuild your immune system with whole foods. God bless!!

    • June,

My name is Heater Harring and my husband was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer for the second time in August last year. He is a true believer in faith and what he puts in his mouth. If you would be so kind as to email me this website I would love to check it out. We have done numerous research on natral cures and supplements as well. My husband and I always say that it is what you put in your mouth that causes this terrible disease. Thank you so much! Heather Harring

      Dr. Gozia,

You are in my prayers and thoughts. This is a terrible disease but with prayer and positive thoughts it can be over-come!!God Bless You and your family!!

    • Hi,
My husband was diag. w/stage 3B colon cancer last jan 2012. Highly differentiated. Nothing thru colon wall, but 4 out of 24 lymph nodes were positive, although no enlarged lymph nodes were seen on the scan before surgery. We started Chemo – folfox Feb. 17. After 8 treatments he stopped the Oxaliplatin for fear of neuropathy – although he was having, from what I have read, very mild symptoms. He has continued with Xeloda, and will start his 12th and last treatment of Xeloda this Fri. he was originally given a 65-to almost 70% chance of surviving w/o Chemo and as told he could increase his survivability to 80-85% w/chemo. Since Dec. 2011, has has eaten nothing but whole foods (meat intake limited to chicken (mostly low fat) and fish). Practically no sugar except in his dark chocolate treats. He exercises 1-1 1/2 hours almost daily. Food, supplements and exercises are supposed to lower your chances of recurrance, so maybe we are cutting that remaining 15% chance in half? I hope so. Anyway, there is always room to learn more though. Can we communicate? About what you did and are still doing? I would love to hear from you.

  21. Praying for a quick plan for recovery and the team of physicians and nurses who will be treating you.

  51. Dr. Gozia,
Our hearts are sad in hearing the news of another trial for you. Our family will keep you in our prayers for continued strength & for a complete return to total health, as it is with much gratitude that we are able to be called a family…of course because of God, but a great deal because of you! You were there for the greatest blessings of our lives! You are strong woman, a great physician, & a friend to us & soooo many! Hugs, David, Angie, Kyle & Abby…2 of your many children

  52. Dr Gozia I am writing this for my Mother Margaret Adermann I told her about your battle she was so upset for you . She said to tell you you are in her prayers and she is so happy you are her doctor and all the kindness you have shown to her .

  53. Praying for you. You are an inspiration to many people. May God Bless you.

  54. I don’t know you like so many of these posts do, but I will pray for you. I often try to pray for all those battling cancer and other diseases when I’m praying for my husband. Often feels so selfish to pray for him alone. I hope you are one of the lucky survivors, and to have to go through this twice is certainly what we fear most. My heart goes out to you, and if there is any strength in me left to pass your way . .. .here you go!

  55. Dr. Gozia
My prayers are with you during this time.
    Blessings

  56. Thinking of you and continuing to pray for good health. I do believe I shall bring you another bar of Dark Chocolate as we all know it’s good for your health! Love ya.
